Did you know, that not all Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) calibrations are the same?
An ADAS-equipped vehicle will include adaptive headlights that automatically dim when oncoming traffic, blind-spot monitoring, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and other assisted safety features.
ADAS-equipped vehicles with a front-facing camera mounted to the windshield need to be recalibrated precisely to the manufacturer’s standards when they are replaced.
There are two types of calibration one is called static, and the other is dynamic. Various vehicles require one or the other and sometimes both types of calibration.
Dynamic ADAS Calibration requires the diagnostic equipment connected to the vehicle OBD port and the vehicle to be driven on a clearly lined roadway in which the vehicle is driven at a specified speed for a specified distance. This can be done anywhere there are clearly lined roadways.
Static ADAS Calibration is done when your vehicle is stationary. This type of calibration requires a proper workshop environment with level floors and uniform front walls for proper calibration. Windshields that require Static Calibration cannot be done on mobile service rather must be completed in the shop.
Precise specifications from the auto manufacturer, along with highly specialized equipment, like computers, lasers, HD cameras, and reflective targets designed for your specific vehicle, are used for calibration.
Other companies may try static calibration in the field, but conditions are not ideal, so your calibration may not meet the manufacturer’s specifications.
