ADAS: The Differences Between Static vs Dynamic Calibration

Did you know, that not all Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) calibrations are the same?

ADAS-equipped vehicles with a front-facing camera mounted to the windshield need to be recalibrated precisely to the manufacturer’s standards when they are replaced.

There are two types of calibration one is called static, and the other is dynamic. Various vehicles require one or the other and sometimes both types of calibration.

Most people don’t realize that your windshield does more than keep the wind out. Many newer vehicles have a small camera mounted behind the windshield. That camera is part of your vehicle’s ADAS system (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), which powers features like lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. When a windshield becomes damaged, it needs to be replaced, and that camera has to be recalibrated. If it’s even slightly off, those safety features may not work the way the manufacturer intended. At Medina Glass, we use the latest ADAS calibration technology to make sure that the camera is aligned correctly after your windshield replacement. This process follows manufacturer specifications and verifies that the camera can accurately “see” the road, lane markings, and surrounding vehicles. The goal is simple: your safety systems work the way they’re supposed to when you drive away. If your vehicle has ADAS features and needs windshield replacement, proper calibration isn’t optional. It’s essential. Have questions about ADAS calibration or whether your vehicle needs it? We’re always happy to explain.

If you can't get that special person in your life a glass shower enclosure this year, then try one of Medina's excellent restaurants.

Be careful out there. Neighboring counties are at Level 2.

We want you to give us the break, but we also want you to be careful. This is what weather experts think we are facing this weekend.

Do you know how glass is made? The glass-making process is a fascinating one. Here is a video about float glass, or flat glass. The name comes from the fact that the molten glass "floats" on molten tin during the manufacturing process. It is definitely worth your time. And, if you need any glass work done, give Medina Glass the break!

Wishing you a wonderful 2026!

We hope Santa was good to you! Merry Christmas from the crew at Medina Glass.

With snow in the forecast, remember to stay cautious when driving behind trucks spreading salt. Larger pieces of salt can sometimes bounce up and hit your windshield. If your windshield gets chipped or cracked, Medina Glass is here to help with expert repair and replacement services to keep you safe on the road.

The forecast is calling for more rain on Tuesday. While we don't have a meteorologist on staff, we do know this: We have an enclosed shop area where we can repair or replace your automotive glass even if it is raining outside. If you are dealing with those people who just drive around in trucks, well, that liquid sunshine might force a delay in getting your windshield fixed. We've been in this community for decades, and we'll be here for you tomorrow.
